Note about strawberries in
Florida:
There are a few strawberry u-pick farms in Florida open
during the entire season, which lasts from December through April). Most
commercial farms do not open their fields to the general public until the end of
the season, which is usually in April (depending on the weather).
NOTE: The exit numbers on the
Interstates have changed, but we have no way of knowing what the new correct
exit numbers are until the farmers correct their listings; so be sure to ask
when you call the farms!

Comments from a visitor, April 14, 2008: "After calling
Favorite Farms several times, and assuring ourselves that they would be open
on Sunday, 4/13/08, we took the nearly hour-long trip to get some berries.
The phone message stated that they're open through 4/20/08. When we got
there, the farm was closed. With several other cars there at the same time,
we collectively decided to pick berries and leave money in the shack by the
entrance to cover our berries. Within a few minutes, a woman in a small suv
came by and told us that they're closed. She's apparently the owner. She was
telling us that this was her first day off since January, she needed the day
off and she wasn't opening. She told us that the honor system is not
acceptable and didn't seem to care that we had driven an hour for the
berries nor that they phone message stated that they were open. We did call
before we went and I called several times while we were standing there. The
phone message still stated that they were open through April 20, 2008. Just
thought you would like the feedback on this farm."
A visitor offers this advice, March 31, 2008: "Cost
for strawberries are 2 quarts/$1 (in 2008). Excellent berries this year! (2008)"

Most people want premium beef, natural or organic. But do not have the
property to raise a beef cow. We supply both or just one. You can pick from
our herd or bring your own. Pickup is available. The local meat packer
offers great prices from our farm to packaging for freezer. Buy the beef cow
at a young age and never have to see it again, until wrapped. This is great
for families, so the children do not get attached to the cow. Of course they
can visit on the weekends if they wish. I opened last year, I now have 12
cows (flank) 3 of them are available for purchase. Of course I visit the
cattle auction once a week for any type you may desire. I prefer Herford
(more beef), but the Brangus seems most popular. Beef Cattle, Buy Here and
Stay Here O.K., Pick your own steer, bull or Heiffer. We will Feed/Fence and
Raise it for you. Or take it with you. Rhode Island Red and Buff Orpington,
Laying Hens and Roosters also available. (UPDATED: May 06, 2008)
